Scheme Updates
Green electricity tariffs (GoO’s) in the modelling of EPDs
The BRE Global EN 15804 EPD Scheme does not accept the inclusion and application of Green Electricity Tariff’s (GoO’s) in our clients’ LCA consultancy projects and subsequent verified EPD. This is because the direct supply of green electricity to clients’ manufacturing facilities cannot be guaranteed. Grid electricity supply sources are dictated by the national grid at a given moment in time and are constantly changing. To give the most accurate representation of this in LCA and EPD results, and to avoid any greenwashing claims against our clients and ourselves, the BRE Global EPD Scheme has elected to use Ecoinvent country-specific average electricity datasets (consumption mix) in all our clients’ LCA consultancy projects to model their direct supply of electricity. Only on-site green electricity sources can be accepted (e.g. from on-site PV panels or wind turbines).
Accepting suppliers’ EPDs for use in the modelling of EPD
We can accept supplier EPD if our clients’ wish to use them in their LCA models. Our consultants will review supplier EPD on a case-by-case basis. Supplier EPD must comply with the EN15804+A2 standard, use national grid electricity (consumption mix), include appropriate allocation methods if secondary materials or fuels are used, and the LCA must have been modelled using the Ecoinvent database.
