BREEAM accounts for more than three quarters of all sustainable building certificates in Europe, according to an independent report published by RICS Germany.

'Going for Green, Sustainable Building Certification Statistics Europe, September 2013' provides a country-by-country analysis of the certification of buildings under BREEAM, LEED, DGNB and HQE. BREEAM has issued more than 7,867 certificates out of a grand total of 9,764. The survey was carried out for 33 countries across Europe, and covered certificates issues for new build/refurbishment projects and existing buildings.

BREEAM has a particularly strong presence in its original UK market, as well as the Netherlands, France, Poland, Belgium and Germany. BREEAM also has a growing number of certifications in the other countries covered by its European National Scheme Operator family including Spain, Norway and Sweden.
