The future of sustainable housing: have your say
The Government is conducting a standards review that will affect the regulatory landscape for housing. Whatever the result of this, BRE believes that the UK housing sector will still need the sort of framework, benchmarks and guidance currently provided by Code for Sustainable Homes. Establishing UK companies in China
BRE and Chinese developer, Shanghai International Shipping Services Centre (SISSC), have signed an agreement on using BREEAM for New Construction and In-Use on a £4bn commercial development in Shanghai. They will also work to attract UK companies representing the best of British construction to establish a base in the city. More

Franshion Properties (China) Ltd, one of China’s leading state-owned developers, is working with BRE to give UK and other businesses the opportunity of showcasing their innovative sustainable technologies in a £20m flagship building in the new £6bn Meixi Lake eco-city. More
New BREEAM for assessing buildings worldwide
On 1st June BRE launched its updated standard for the overseas market - BREEAM International New Construction 2013. The standard combines two previous international standards, BREEAM Europe Commercial and BREEAM International Bespoke, and is the first BREEAM scheme for the certification of residential buildings outside the UK. Responsible sourcing standard update
The Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products standard, BES 6001 (Version 2) is being updated. A stakeholder meeting was held on 4 June to review the outcomes of an extensive consultation exercise (summarised here). The final draft of BES 6001 (version 3) will be disseminated shortly and a closing consultation meeting held at the end of the Autumn. More
New software simplifies EPCs and Green Deal assessments
New EPC software for existing dwellings has been formally launched as part of the Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) and Green Deal Advisor (GDA) software suite. Free to use for all BRE licensed DEAs and GDAs, the new EPC software will incorporate many features that they have been requesting. More

An Outstanding first for the Czech Republic
The first commercial building outside the UK to achieve BREEAM Outstanding has been awarded to The Tower at Spielberk in the Czech Republic’s emerging high-tech city of Brno. The building was designed by an award winning team of Dutch and Czech architects, Studio Acht. More
IMPACT life cycle and cost assessment software for BIM
IMPACT allows construction professionals to measure the embodied environmental impact and life cycle cost performance of buildings. It is integrated into 3D CAD/BIM (Building Information Modelling) software tools. New BREEAM credits are available for using IMPACT. More
£100 million BREEAM Communities scheme
Six major developments (five in the UK and one in Sweden) have now been certified under BREEAM Communities. The second to be certified, for example, was Derby’s £100 million Castleward redevelopment of 30 acres of brownfield land, which will become a brand new community of sustainable homes and businesses. More
