Foreword by Sir Neville Simms, Chairman of the Sustainable Procurement Task Force

Dear Specifier,

I am pleased to offer my support to the work of BRE Global in bringing together this first edition of the Green Book,  the unique reference source for environmental products and services.

We live in an exciting but demanding time for the built environment, where awareness and understanding of the impact of climate change has never been greater. Designers, specifiers and clients need to be increasingly rigorous in the product choices they make, and we need to commit to making decisions based upon the sound advice that is becoming more and more readily available.

What is more, we need to give the manufacturers and suppliers who are investing in more sustainable building products the opportunity to demonstrate the benefits they can offer, by specifying their products and solutions.

This is exactly what the Green Book is about, and I applaud the efforts of BRE and others who are coming together to do this. This listing and website represents an excellent start along the road to becoming a more sustainable sector that not only creates wealth and opportunity but also leaves our planet in a fit state for future generations to enjoy.
