FAQs
FAQs on MCS and Certification
Is MCS a mandatory certification scheme?
No, MCS is an entirely voluntary certification scheme and, as such, there is no legal or statutory reason for you to join it. However, the purpose of the scheme is to ensure that products and installers meet robust standards and requirements, on an ongoing basis and so, both products and installers are entitled to display the certification mark (logo). Certification under the scheme will also enable you to access grant schemes and CERT. We also expect that, over time, MCS will underpin future national and local Government initiatives.
It is also intended to raise awareness of MCS among consumers and professionals (e.g. architects).
What is Third Party Certification?
Third party certification is an independent confirmation that products, systems, services and personnel meet and continue to meet specified standards and certification scheme requirements.

Note on Use of Subcontractors and Scope of the Scheme
Please note that your company must be responsible to the client for the whole microgeneration installation. Please see the relevant MIS300x standard regarding the scope of the scheme and use of subcontractors. You must also hold the contract with the system owner, main contractor, or next contractor in a chain, and your company must sign the commissioning certificate to show responsibility for the installation.
