Product Certification
Product certification involves type testing of products to the requirements set out in the scheme standards and scheme documents plus an assessment of the manufacturing processes called factory production control (FPC).
The factory production control assessment confirms that the procedures meet the requirements of the scheme and that they are being implemented and maintained. Additionally the materials, manufacturing process and staff training are reviewed to make sure that the product has not changed and is being manufactured in a consistent way.
This scheme replaces the Clear Skies and PV schemes which were closed to applications for product listing from 31 March 2007.
On 31 December 2009 the Clear Skies register of approved products was withdrawn.
Any products not MCS certificated (or Solar Keymark for solar collectors) ceased to be eligible for use in grant programmes and wider initiatives where MCS approval is a requirement.
