BRE and Korea Institute of Construction agree new collaboration

4/4/2014

BRE and the Korea Institute of Construction Technology (a government sponsored research centre who develop national policies and standards for the South Korean built environment) have signed a new agreement that signals a wide-ranging collaboration between the two science centres.

The five-year extendable framework for cooperation focuses on exchanging and improving knowledge, and sharing research, expertise and best practice across sustainable construction, fire and security protection, training and education and infrastructure sectors. One initial area being explored is around developing standards for South Korea’s existing building and housing stock so it is more resilient, sustainable and works better for occupants.

Recently signed by the President of KICT, Dr Hyo-Seop Woo, and the Managing Director of BRE Global, Richard Hardy, the agreement includes planned annual joint workshops. These will act as a productive forum for open dialogue on green building standards; mutual updates on respective green building certification systems, policies and training; and a chance to explore options and opportunities for collaborative projects and joint research.

Mr Hardy said ‘We welcome this renewed commitment to collaborate with KICT. We are very similar organisations who share the common goal of improving the quality of people’s lives through research on buildings and infrastructure. We look forward to working with our partners on a number of research and other projects that address the major challenges faced by the global built environment’
