Admiral Insurance and Currie & Brown engage with BRE on QUANTUM project

20/2/2017

BRE is working with two of the world’s leading companies as research continues in “QUANTUM” – a four year, pan European project which aims to help close the gap between predicted performance and actual delivered performance in buildings, whilst maintaining comfort for occupants and end-users.

Currie & Brown, one of the world’s leading asset management and construction consultancies and leading insurance company Admiral, are trialling “Comfortmeter”, an online comfort assessor developed by Belgian project partner Factor4, in selected offices across the UK, in a bid to convert the ‘qualitative’ aspects of occupant comfort into a standard quantitative measure which can ultimately be used to adjust building configurations or settings.

Admiral Insurance have deployed the trial in its Cardiff, Newport and Swansea offices. The system is also being trialled within Currie & Brown’s central London office, as well as BRE’s headquarters in Watford.

Results from the “Comfortmeter” trials will enable the further development of the tool under the QUANTUM project with a view to producing an accurate and cost-effective method of monitoring staff comfort in buildings.

BRE, the world leading multi-disciplinary building science centre with a mission to improve the built environment through research and knowledge generation, is the lead UK partner on the QUANTUM project and Associate Director of BRE Wales, Andy Sutton comments,'Securing the interest and involvement of leading companies is key to the ongoing success of the QUANTUM project therefore, we are delighted that both Admiral Insurance and Currie&Brown are working with us on this vitally important research.'
