BRE has become a corporate partner of the Sustainable Homes Index For Tomorrow (SHIFT), the UK housing sector's independent sustainability benchmarking and best practice learning network.
SHIFT was developed by Sustainable Homes in partnership with DECC, Environment Agency, HCA, Mayor of London, UK Green Building Council and WWF to drive continuous improvement in housing. Over two and a half million people are housed in organisations within its membership.
Dr Gavin Dunn, Director of BREEAM said: “BRE is pleased to be a corporate partner of the SHIFT network. The need for sharing best practise on sustainable, affordable, fuel efficient housing is more important than ever at a time when almost a million older people in the UK are in fuel poverty and homes remain the single biggest contributor to CO2. We look forward to working and learning with the network.”
SHIFT will play a key role in the development and roll out of BRE’s consumer standard for new homes which will be launched in March 2015.
Andrew Eagles, Managing Director of Sustainable Homes said ‘There is a huge challenge to improve our existing buildings and create a more sustainable future. The SHIFT group continues to grow and meet this need and we are delighted to welcome BRE.Their skills and tools will be invaluable to our members and we look forward to an enduring and fruitful partnership.’
