BREEAM International New Construction assessor top up training for existing qualified BREEAM assessors

PLEASE NOTE; delegates will be required to undertake 30 hrs. of structured online learning before attending the classroom course.

BREEAM International assessor training is entering and new and exciting era. Our goal is to deliver high calibre, informative and engaging content that will develop delegates into knowledgeable and capable BREEAM professionals. BREEAM International delegates will be immersed into blended online learning delivered through online workshops, interactive discussions, classroom engagement and finally examinations for certification. They will emerge from the successful completion of this process as fully qualified BREEAM International assessors, and new members of the BREEAM family. To become licensed, assessors are required to hold professional indemnity insurance. For more information please see our FAQ page.

To top up their qualification, currently qualified BREEAM assessors may attend a one day training course. This is preceded by 30 hours of online learning.

This scheme uses calculation tools which run in MS Excel with macros. Macintosh computers are unable to use this function and you will need access to a PC to complete assessments.  

Online learning structure

Module 1 – An introduction to BREEAM

Module 2 – The BREEAM International and Bespoke processes, reporting and evidence requirements

Module 3 – Technical modules

  • Management, Health & Wellbeing, Energy, Transport

Module 4 - Technical modules

  • Water, Materials, Waste, Land Use & Ecology, Pollution 

 1 day classroom based learning

  • Question and answer session
  • BREEAM International top-up exam 


On successful completion of the course and the examinations you will be issued with notification that verifies your BREEAM Assessor qualification. You will then be required to apply to BRE Global Ltd to become a Licenced BREEAM Assessor under the Scheme in order to practice. You must make this application within 12 months of completing the course.

To practice as a licenced BREEAM Assessor you will be required to pay an annual licence fee and hold adequate levels of professional insurance, particularly professional indemnity insurance. Further information on the route to becoming a licenced BREEAM Assessor can be found
